Tarot Myths Busted!
Many of my first time tarot clients are very nervous, superstitious, or misinformed about how the tarot works. I know there are tarot readers out there that really play up the mystical side of the tarot, but I am not one of them. The cards are a spiritual tool that can be used by anyone who decides to give them a try. With practice anyone can be a good reader and using the tarot in your daily life can be very beneficial.
I see the tarot as a way to communicate with the higher-self of whomever I'm reading for. Each card has meaning and along with its particular placement within a spread. Add these elements together and you get a clear picture of what your higher-self is trying to say. No super powers required. This makes me more of a translator than a psychic. I do get very deep insight from my intuition, but understanding the language of tarot symbols has never let me down. Many people who have never studied the tarot grasp the card meanings quickly based on how they feel when they see the card. There are many elements involved in learning and understanding the tarot, but anyone can get started with a deck and a good reference book. I highly recommend The Tarot Revealed: A Beginner's Guide by Paul Fenton-Smith available on Amazon.
When I am doing a reading I like to point out that nothing is set in stone but the past. You always have free will and choice. The very act of having the reading can change your perspective which can change your path. A reading's prediction is only going to stay the same if you stay on the same path and do nothing different. When someone draws a slew of reversed cards with hard meanings, I tell them that with effort these negative cards can be avoided or changed. The choice is theirs to make.
The main point I'm trying to make is there is nothing to fear from the tarot. The tarot is a tool of self discovery and great adventure. It is also a creative outlet and great friend in hard times. The tarot can connect you to your higher-self in ways you never thought possible. Throw those superstitions out the window and lets explore the world of tarot together!
